Chart Structure, or Ge Ju, is the dominant functional arrangement established from season and the leading Ten God relationships. It is not a social rank or life verdict.
Chart Structure (格局) is the dominant functional arrangement in a BaZi chart, usually established from the month command, Day Master capacity, and the most operative Ten God relationships. It organizes interpretation around a central relationship such as Authority, Wealth, Resource, or Output. It is not a fixed social rank, a guaranteed destiny, or a shortcut around reading the whole chart.
Definition
Ge means a formed pattern or standard; ju means an arrangement. In BaZi, the term asks which relationship actually organizes the chart. The month branch matters because it establishes season and often reveals the leading qi, but visible stems, roots, transformations, and damage to the pattern determine whether that structure is usable.
A structure label reduces complexity only after the chart has been checked. It should explain why certain relationships lead, what supports them, what disrupts them, and how the Day Master participates. Naming a structure without those tests is classification theater rather than analysis.
Method, not mystique
Identify the seasonal qi and the month branch’s hidden stems. Determine which relationship is able to emerge and organize the chart.
Check visible stems, roots, combinations, clashes, and Day Master capacity. A candidate structure can be strengthened, redirected, or broken.
Explain what the structure needs in order to work and what would overload or damage it. Keep the label subordinate to the evidence.
If Authority is seasonally established, visible, and supported by Resource while the Day Master can carry its pressure, Authority may organize the chart. If strong Output directly attacks that Authority without a mediating relationship, the same candidate structure may be impaired. The useful conclusion is the operating relationship, not the prestige of the structure’s name.
Do not confuse
A Ten God is one relationship to the Day Master. Structure describes how one or more relationships organize the chart as a whole.
Strength is one input into structure. It does not by itself name the dominant arrangement.
Following and transformation structures require stricter conditions than ordinary structures and should not be declared from a single symbol.
Interpretive boundary
Structure systems vary by school, especially for mixed, transformed, and following patterns. This reference uses structure as an explanatory model. It must not be used to assign human worth, social class, or inevitable life outcomes.
